ASSENT FORM
Study Title: CSLINC
Principal Investigator: Dr. Keith Quille.

1.       What will happen to me in this study?

The reason we are asking you to take part in this study is because we want to learn more about students who study computer science. We want to know what students like and dislike about the modules they study so that we can find better ways to teach computer science so as to engage more students. If you choose to take part, you will be asked to complete a number of surveys on the programme as a whole and on each module you study.

2.       Can anything bad happen to me?

Nothing bad can happen to you from taking part in this study. Some of the questions ask about your learning and these might make you feel uncomfortable. You have the choice to answer only the questions you want to answer.

3.       Can anything good happen to me?

We hope that by understanding how you feel about the computer science modules you have completed that we can encourage more students to have an interest in computer science as a subject for the Leaving Certificate and even possibly as a career.

4.       Do I have other choices?

You have the choice not to take part in this study. You also have the choice to remove yourself from this study at any time.

5.       Will anyone know I am in the study?

All your answers from this study will be made anonymous and this means no one will ever know that you took part or what your specific answers were. All answers are looked at together to get a more general picture of the bigger student population.

6.       Who can I talk to about this study?

The research team can be contact by email keith.quille@tudublin.ie at any time to talk about this study. It is also a good idea to talk to your parents or guardians about taking part in this study.

7.       What if do not want to do this?

This is completely voluntary, and you do not have to take part if you do not want to. You can still complete the computer science modules in the exact same way as someone taking part in the survey. You can also change your mind about being involved in the study at any time and we will remove your stored data.

8.       I will show the consent form and information sheet to my parents for them to give consent for me to participate in this study.

I understand what this study is about, and I agree to take part in it and bring the consent to my parents/guardians.
